Awww man! This first book was super angsty. I love strong heroines and Kitty was as strong as they come. She made sacrifices for the benefit of her family but she didn’t shy away from the grumpy Alexander, the Duke she pretended to be engaged to.
I love fake relationship tropes because I already know they will fall for each other. It’s just a matter of how and when. This story was no different. But Alexander was a man who lived in great physical pain. He was in a house fire that cost him members of his family but he survived with major injuries including 2nd and 3rd degree burns. He also used a wheelchair to manage getting around. These injuries including facial scarring made it unlikely that he would ever marry and since his lower half didn’t work properly, the idea of making an heir was out the window. Alexander thought he had made peace with his lot in life until a young woman announced that she was engaged to him. Kitty made Alexander yearn for thing and that hurt more than anything because he knew it wasn’t physically possible.
The author showed us that it’s okay to modify and adjust our Dreams, and that okay too. It was sweet and intense and so joyful at the end. I am still in age that Stacy Reid isn’t an author we are all talking about. Really great story telling
