Monthly in Review (July 2018)

July Reading is in the books!

I was on vacation and I had some family emergencies but I managed to get almost all of my books read except for the only paperback I took on the cruise. I enjoyed most of the books except Geekerella. I was truly disappointed with that one. I will now write my reviews for the top rated books. Expect them in the next week. Did you complete your reading plan?

Started but Haven’t finished:

Book Club

Monday Book Club Selection (August 2018)

I am hosting August 2018 Book Club (Monday the 13th) and out of the choices I gave the group, the chosen read is The Perfect Mother by Aimee Molloy.

C0A41326-1534-4AE7-BCCA-9E5C84E2DC12

Vanity Fair calls it one of the most anticipated books of the summer. Soon to be a major motion picture starring Scandal’s Kerry Washington.

An addictive psychological thriller about a group of women whose lives become unexpectedly connected when one of their newborns goes missing.

They call themselves the May Mothers—a collection of new moms who gave birth in the same month. Twice a week, with strollers in tow, they get together in Prospect Park, seeking refuge from the isolation of new motherhood; sharing the fears, joys, and anxieties of their new child-centered lives.

When the group’s members agree to meet for drinks at a hip local bar, they have in mind a casual evening of fun, a brief break from their daily routine. But on this sultry Fourth of July night during the hottest summer in Brooklyn’s history, something goes terrifyingly wrong: one of the babies is abducted from his crib. Winnie, a single mom, was reluctant to leave six-week-old Midas with a babysitter, but the May Mothers insisted that everything would be fine. Now Midas is missing, the police are asking disturbing questions, and Winnie’s very private life has become fodder for a ravenous media.

Though none of the other members in the group are close to the reserved Winnie, three of them will go to increasingly risky lengths to help her find her son. And as the police bungle the investigation and the media begin to scrutinize the mothers in the days that follow, damaging secrets are exposed, marriages are tested, and friendships are formed and fractured.

My other two choices were my preferred genres of romance but alas, they didn’t garner the top votes. I will still listen to both The Smallest Part by Amy Harmon and In The Stillness by Andrea Randall in the future, though the latter book hasn’t been recorded in audiobook form yet.

Have you read or listened to any of these yet? Your thoughts? What bookclub read do you recommend to mine?

Flat Screen Fridays (July 20th, 2018)

My husband and I enjoy movies as an easy date night. A lot of good choices this weekend, but we couldn’t decide. I voted for Mamma Mia 2 and he wanted to see the Equalizer 2.

I didn’t love Mamma Mia but I love the ABBA songs, so it’s about the music for me. Of course, hubby would rather spend his hours enjoying academy award winner Denzel Washington, one of our favorite actors.

Our kids are all about Hotel Transylvania 3. I must admit that I also love this series. So we have lots of choices. I’ll let you know what we end up seeing as we will end up doing Rock, Paper, Scissor to decide the adult option. I only have it in me to see two features this week.

What are you planning on seeing? Have you already seen any of these? Your thoughts?

Mid Month Update (July 2018)

While I’m chilling on the Carnival Vista Deck waiting to arrive in Curaçao 🇨🇼, I’m taking an inventory of what books I’ve actually listened to 🎧 /read 📖 in order of my enjoyment.

One 5-Star read, the next two books were 5-Star reads, the bottom two were 3-Star reads. I still have a few more books to go before the month is out. What have you enjoyed so far?
