Blurb: He arrives all dressed in black. Diamond cufflinks. A watch on his tanned wrist that cost more than we would ever see in a lifetime of work. He carries a single red rose for my mother.
Months later, Tiernan Morelli lays red roses on my mother’s grave. That same day, he tells me that he is my new guardian.
I should have known from the very start that he had more in common with the thorns than the rose. Now I know the truth: I’m a pawn in his dangerous game of revenge. I was too young and naive. Now it’s too late to save myself from his clutches.
I belong to him.
This is really a series one should read in a sequential order. Although I read the preceding novella Bad Dream, it is clear the players have an established history that would explain the almost insurmountable hatred amongst the Constantine and Morelli family. It was clear from the very beginning that this series was more about forbidden love, betrayal, rich families and generational vengeance. I would have understood and enjoyed the current installment if I knew the past, particularly Tiernan’s siblings and father Bryant.
Tiernan Morelli connects with Bianca and her brother Brandon in order to help his father with his ultimate revenge plan. The author does a great job in portraying Tiernan as a very conflicted and complicated man. At times I didn’t like him, and the other times, I felt sorry for him. I did however really like him whenever he was around Brandon. Bianca, on the other hand, is the character that understood the least. She loved her brother but I didn’t understand her relationship with Tiernan. That’s what I struggled most with in this book, Tiernan and Bianca had an attraction but the story would have benefitted by spending more time developing their connection and their feelings for each other. It wasn’t strong enough to make me buy into this strong love.
After I read the second part of this duet, I plan to start at the beginning and read this universe so everything can be understood in its context.
